The Story of a Can

At EFFECT we have the opportunity to develop sustainability programs worldwide but sometimes events closest to home hit the hardest. On the first leg of a recent trip, the flight attendant was walking the aisle collecting “trash.” When I asked if they recycled, she informed me that they use to but currently did not. “Thanks for the honesty but you can’t have my can. I’ll find a place to recycle it myself.” I replied. Little did I know that neither of the airports I would pass through that day nor my hotel would recycle my can. Where is it now? Several thousand miles later, it is on my desk, a reminder that we still have a lot of good work to do. There are dozens of organizations around the country that can help. Click here for a listing of just a few and let’s work to eliminating the word “trash” from the dictionary.
